The Sanford Redmond Gable Top Container Closure unit was invented as a
replacement for the costly injected molded, screw-on caps with thin tamper
evident protective seals which must be pulled out by means a finger loop
after removing the screw on cap. These unwieldy units cost upwards of 4
cents to make and install on the gable top unit and require costly equipment
to do so. The Sanford Redmond tamper evident unit is made entirely from a
single small sheet of plastic film and costs about .25 cents. It can be heat
sealed directly over a hole in the gable face. Lifting the tab breaks out an
adhesive seal under a hinged cap to reveal an outlet in a stubby nozzle to
which the cap was sealed permitting the liquid contained to flow out. To
close, the cap is simply hinged back over the stubby nozzle member before
storing the container. No cap to lose, no cap to screw on and off.
